Sneak Peak - Presentation Skills
Sneak Peak - Preparing a presentation
"The key to effective presentation is preparation".
If you want to be a successful presenter you need to learn a number of skills. Some of these skills may be new and some may be ‘old friends'. We'll be taking you through these in this workbook.
Any presentation needs to be carefully considered and planned in advance. Just think of the amount of time you would give to a speech at a wedding about the happy couple! Thought must be given to every detail and the whole process should be polished and planned to time. Every opportunity to present information to a number of people should be taken in order to build confidence and to become a more effective speaker.
If you are confident about your subject area it will be a great asset to success. However if you're over confident you could antagonise your audience.
Let us now look at the skill of presenting in more detail, and break down each vital component part in order to consider your own strengths and weaknesses in each area. The key to effective presentation is preparation.
Establishing aims and objectives
In order to prepare for your presentation you should ask yourself 4 key questions:
- Why do I need to speak to this audience?
- What will they expect to get out of it?
- What points do I need to put forward?
- How can these points be effectively put forward?
Answer each question in turn and create a base plan on which to build your presentation.
