Beating the recession -A company's secret to success.

When times are tight, employers need all of their staff to be awake, aware and alert? This company has proven success with their employees working smarter, not harder.

Academy of Learning helped this employer assess each individual to determine their learning needs. They then found appropriate and often government supported programmes to improve the knowledge and skills of their workforce.

It's a win-win situation: the apprentice develops a broad range of skills, knowledge and expertise whilst earning a salary and studying towards an NVQ and our business has the opportunity to grow its own talent and ultimately invest in the Neopost of tomorrow.

 

Learning takes place both on-the-job as well as in formal classroom and one-to-one settings with a tutor. Each apprentice undertakes a work-related project which is closely linked to the business's needs. We work with the Academy of Learning, who deliver the NVQ training progarammes to our Apprentices as well as to Neopost employees who want to develop their skills and knowledge.

 

Apprentices have proven to be a cost effective way of recruiting and developing staff, enabling savings to be made in terms of temporary staff costs, recruitment agency fees and formal training programme costs. The format of the training provides further cost and efficiency savings: the amount of time physically away from the business is minimised as all training is undertaken in-house in ‘bite-sized' chunks, rather than the business ‘losing' an employee for one or two days whilst they attend college or a traditional training programme.  Furthermore, some of the training is actually government funded.

The Learning and Skills Council recently surveyed businesses throughout the UK on benefits of hiring an apprentice.  Of those surveyed:

81% said that employing apprentices generated higher overall productivity for their company.

66% said that their Apprenticeship programme made them more competitive in their industry.

92% said that their Apprenticeship programme better motivated staff and increased job satisfaction.

74% said that apprentices tended to be more loyal, remaining at their company longer than non-apprentices.
